Host: The Bulldog Club of Greater St Louis
My wife Karin and I acquired our first Bulldog in 1992 from Carolyn Whiteside of SmasherCal Bulldogs, who later became our mentor in exhibiting and breeding Bulldogs under the kennel name DK Bulldogs. We took it all in and became quite active in our local club and the BCA, eventually earning the title of Hall of Fame Breeder. From all this came 30+ champions in the US and abroad, three Hall of Fame Producers and lots of family dogs that went to great homes for many years of enjoyment. I believe that our efforts well served the Bulldog community. The biggest moments were with our boy Ch DK’s Cook Dude when he went BISS at the OKBC Nationals week in 1998 and Best in Show at a large All-Breed show in Wisconsin.
Then came judging, something I aspired to do from the very beginning. There were AKC Bulldog judges I admired, respected and learned so much from. Like they told me, “Be your own man and select great representatives of the Standard”, I thought, done deal.
Now as a 30-year member of the Bulldog community, I am honored to be invited to judge the Bulldogs at the 2025 Bulldog Nationals. It’s an event I travelled to many times back in the nineties and 2000’s and this time it’s me deciding on who takes home the prizes. Just know that I take this assignment very seriously and thank you for having me.
Best of luck to all of you exhibiting and be safe in your travels.
