Shirley Slaterpryce was born with an absolute love for animals. Be it horses, cats, dogs or anything else with four legs or wings, Shirley just loves animals. In her early adulthood, Shirley was breeding AKC Rottweilers. That breed provided her the “love of her life”, Excaliber, but when he passed away Shirley no longer had the heart to continue with Rottweilers. She was not really looking for another breed but knew that she would always have a dog so when she decided that it was time, she looked for a breed with a long and dignified history which led her to Bulldogs.
Her first Bulldogs were Florida and Gator, named after the University of Florida Mascot from her husband’s Alma Mater. Her first introduction to the Bulldog “show world” provided her with the inspiration, and vision, for her line. She saw, and fell in love with, a beautiful fawn six (6) month old puppy, at his very first show; his name was “CH Little Ponds George”. Fate was good to Shirley that day as she also met Elizabeth “Liz” Karshner who not only has been an exceptional mentor, but has become a dear friend as well. And so, this was the beginning her journey, taking us to where we are today. From the first breeding to Florida, with “George” as the sire in 2011, came her first two Champions, GCH CH Slaterpryce’s In The Rough; AKA “Diamond” and CH Slaterpryce’s Vintage Jiffy; AKA “Peanut”. Shirley has now been in the Bulldog show world for over 13 years and was inducted into the Bulldog Hall of Fame in 2015. She reached the first plateau in 2019 and now has over 60 “Bred By” Champions. Shirley is committed to breeding to the standard for confirmation, temperament and exceptional health. She is recognized as a passionate advocate for the breed and has, and will, spend hours on the phone, or in texts and emails, discussing Bulldogs with prospective owners, or others, in the Bulldog community. Shirley is passing along her knowledge and love of the sport and has been mentoring her niece a Junior, Zoe Brewer. You can see Zoe at shows, not only handling Bulldogs, but with other breeds as well. Shirley has many interests outside of dogs. She is always looking for good business opportunities in which to invest, she manages her rental properties and enjoys travelling. Shirley has two children and a wealth of interesting friends that also keep her busy. Shirley is looking forward to where this journey, of life, will take her.
